HPU left fielder Ryan Torres, a 2013 Konawaena graduate, batted 3 for 4 with three RBIs, including a two-run homer.

The lopsided loss is not the worst in UHH’s history. In the school’s debut season in 1977, UH-Manoa beat the Vulcans 29-2.

UHH holds a collegiate record losing streak of 23 straight years that covers the NCAA Division I and II and NAIA levels.

It is UHH coach Kallen Miyataki’s second season. The Vuls finished 14-33 last year after he replaced Joey Estrella.

In Game, 2, the Sharks won 3-2 in 10 innings. Torres-Torioka batted 4 for 5 with an RBI.

UHH (8-35) lost the series to HPU (22-19), 5-1.

In an earlier six-game series on Oahu, the Sharks won the series, 5-1.

The Vulcans close their season with a four-game series against Academy of Art at Wong Stadium on April 29.

Medeiros dazzles in first start at Low-A ball

Milwaukee Brewers farmhand Kodi Medeiros threw six no-hit and scoreless innings in his first start on Sunday for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

The 2014 Waiakea graduate and Milwaukee’s first-round pick in last June’s draft struck out seven and walked two in an 11-1 loss to the Peoria Chiefs before a sellout crowd of 5,944 at his home stadium.

Medeiros recorded 11 ground outs, and not a single fly ball was hit against him.

Kean Wong, a 2013 Waiakea gradate, is batting .179 (5 for 28) through eight games for the Tampa Bay Rays High-A affiliate Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Jodd Carter, a 2014 Hilo graduate, and 24th-round pick of the Cleveland Indians is in extended spring training and will likely be assigned to a rookie league or short-season league in June.
